Description

Nigel Danson is a British landscape photographer who turned a lifelong hobby into a completely new way of living. He first picked up a camera at the age of eleven and became fascinated by the darkroom process, watching black and white images slowly appear on photographic paper. Even though he later built a successful software company with more than one hundred employees, photography never really left him.

In 2016, while visiting Yosemite National Park, he was involved in a serious car accident. It was a life-changing moment. After recovering, he returned to Yosemite — not for business, but for photography. That was the beginning of a different chapter.

In 2017 he left the business world behind and focused entirely on landscape photography. Since then, he has been travelling, hiking, leading workshops, and sharing his experience with a global audience.

For Nigel, photography is not only about technique. It is about being outside, experiencing nature, and capturing a real moment that will never happen in exactly the same way again.

Nigel is widely respected not only for the quality and beauty of his images, but also for the way he teaches and promotes landscape photography. On his YouTube channel, he explains his process in a clear and honest way, helping photographers understand both technical decisions and creative thinking behind each image.

“Close To Calm” by Nigel Danson is rated 4.91 out of 5 stars based on 143 reviews and is available from £49.00. The book focuses on landscapes that are often overlooked — the familiar places just outside our door — and is based on years of photographing within an hour of home.

It shows that true beauty is not necessarily found in distant, dramatic locations, but in understanding the rhythms of local light, weather, and seasons. The book is about connection, slowing down, and seeing more deeply. It reflects the quiet joy of capturing fleeting moments in familiar places that hold personal meaning.
