Madagascar Macro Photography Workshop

Meet Eduard Florin Niga, a photographer specialising in macro and micro photography. He creates his images in a self-built home studio, using techniques such as focus stacking, stack-and-stitch, and single-shot methods. At the same time, he also works in natural environments, capturing detailed behavioural shots of insects in the wild.

His work has been featured by National Geographic, Nikon, and various scientific publications, and he was shortlisted in the British Photography Awards 2019 in the Macro category.

Into the Heart of Madagascar — A Macro Expedition Through Rainforest, Mountains & Night is a photography expedition led by Eduard Niga that explores some of Madagascar’s most diverse rainforest habitats. The journey takes participants through locations including VOIMMA, Analamazaotra, Mantadia National Park, Mitsinjo, and Maromizaha, offering opportunities to photograph a remarkable variety of wildlife and rainforest subjects.

The expedition focuses on macro and nature photography, with chances to photograph leaf-tailed geckos, frogs, chameleons, spiders, insects, orchids, and other species found within Madagascar’s unique ecosystems. Participants also visit areas inhabited by iconic lemurs, including the Indri and Sifaka, making telephoto photography an important part of the experience.

Alongside daytime rainforest exploration, several night sessions are dedicated to photographing Madagascar’s rich nocturnal wildlife. The itinerary also includes a visit to Ambalahorina Village, where participants can document everyday life and create documentary-style images before ascending into the high forest. The mountain section of the expedition includes an overnight camping experience in remote primary rainforest, with opportunities for moth photography and close immersion in the natural environment.

Combining rainforest exploration, macro photography, wildlife encounters, night photography, and cultural experiences, the expedition offers an in-depth photographic journey through some of Madagascar’s most remarkable landscapes and habitats.
