Description
Experience the dramatic landscapes of New Zealand's South Island in winter on this seven-day, small-group photography tour led by professional landscape photographer Richard Hume.
Taking place from 5–11 July 2027, the tour explores the Ashburton Lakes, Lake Tekapo, Mackenzie Country and Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park. Winter brings snow-covered mountains, frozen lakes, crisp air and low-angle light, creating exceptional opportunities for landscape photography.
Our photographic locations include the remote lakes and mountain basins of Hakatere Conservation Park, the backcountry surrounding Lake Tekapo, the Tasman and Hooker Valleys, Lake Pukaki, Lake Ōhau and the spectacular alpine landscapes surrounding Aoraki / Mount Cook.
With a maximum of six participants, the tour offers plenty of individual attention and practical, on-location photography tuition. We explore composition, working with changing light, camera techniques, filters and long exposures, with time to develop a thoughtful approach to each scene.
The itinerary remains flexible to take advantage of weather and light, allowing us to revisit locations or explore new opportunities as conditions develop. The emphasis is on unhurried photography rather than rushing between viewpoints.
