Experience the spectacular landscapes of New Zealand's South Island in spring on this nine-day, small-group photography tour led by professional landscape photographer Richard Hume.
Taking place from 6–14 September 2027, the tour travels through the Mackenzie Country, Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park, Wānaka, Mount Aspiring National Park and Fiordland. Spring is a particularly rewarding time for landscape photography, with snow remaining on the mountain peaks, rivers and waterfalls flowing strongly, and rapidly changing light creating a wide variety of photographic opportunities.
Our photographic locations include Lake Tekapo, Lake Pukaki, the Tasman and Hooker Valleys, the alpine landscapes surrounding Aoraki / Mount Cook, the lakes and mountain valleys around Wānaka, and the dramatic scenery of Fiordland, including Milford Sound.
With a maximum of six participants, the tour provides individual attention and practical, on-location photography tuition. We explore composition, working with changing light, camera techniques, filters and long exposures, with guidance tailored to each photographer's experience.
Days are planned around the best available light, with early morning and evening photography sessions. The itinerary remains flexible, allowing us to revisit locations or explore quieter, less-visited areas as weather and conditions develop.
The emphasis is on thoughtful, unhurried photography rather than rushing between viewpoints, giving participants time to explore each scene and develop their photographic skills.
